I really enjoyed this place. It had just won best restaurant award that day that I are there and it was well deserved.
The food is delicious and the cocktails are nice too :)
The staff are so accommodating and friendly. Highly recommended!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Peter M.Groes-faen, United Kingdom01613885 Jun 2008First to Review
There are surely 12 or so Indian Restaurants in the same central district of Nottingham, so competition is brisk. But whenever I've tried to walk into '4550' on chance, a table is impossible. That must mean something. Last night was no exception, and five of us sat at a table just vacated by 4 members of the English Cricket Team, who were dining with Sir Garfield Sobers. Celebs as well! The sound of happy diners filled the room.
The food is stylish and fresh, the service prompt and attentive, the ambience good. Many habitual curry dishes are given a slight spin with the addition of garnishes or vegetables, and there are a few choices not normally found, such as Fish Amritsari, Chicken Bemisaal, and Tawa. Very good vegetarian menu, too.
A good and sensibly priced Wine List meant that we finished the evening pleasurably. 4550 is one to return to.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - A B.Canberra, Australia21856 Apr 2013
4.5 stars, rounding up to 5. We were the first people here on a Saturday evening and based on interwebs reviews were hopeful of a tasty meal. And it was! The kastoori kebab was fresh, hot and flavoursome with a nice spice blend. We ordered channa masala and lamb achaari with raita and rice pulau to go with it. And they were way above the usual stuff you get in a suburban or regional Indian restaurant - delicious, fresh, very tender lamb, properly cooked chickpeas, and a lovely balance of spice and heat. The rice was good, and the raita was ok (it seemed to be made of thin French style low-fat yoghurt rather than a more robust one. Was perfectly edible just not what I was expecting.)
The service was quick, polite and attentive. A couple of little slips like bringing a jug of water instead of a glass of sparkling water, but eh, not to worry.
Overall a great meal and if I'm ever in Nottingham I'll come back here!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (muddyb…)Darmstadt, Germany411181225 Sept 2008Updated review
They have the mix of modern and traditional just right here. Not a bit of flock wallpaper to be seen. But it's not a let's drop in for a curry after 10 pints of beer kind of a place.
It's not a fast food joint, either, but everything is freshly prepared, and nicely presented. The menu is huge, which is sometimes a bit off putting, but I've never had a bad meal here, and neither have my vegetarian pals. My personal favourite is the lamb rogan josh.
Their motto is 'Atithi Devo Bhava' ('the guest is truly your god'), but I'm afraid this might not apply on a busy Saturday night, when it can go a bit Pete Tong. As a result I tend to stick to a day in the week.
The prices are average to high for an Indian restaurant, but IMO it represents reasonable value for money.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 022 Aug 2008Previous reviewWow! And it's not often I say Wow. This place has it all. Frankly, I couldn't believe I was in Nottingham. Before your meal you can enjoy a drink in the garden whilst you peruse the extensive wine list.
Inside it's a real experience of fine dining at its best. The service is perfect, the waiting staff are just there when you need them. The evening A La Cart Menu has it all. Innovation, taste and experimentation. They even source local produce. It's not overly expensive, but if you're on a budget you might have to save your pennies for a bit, but if you want somewhere for a special occasion this is it.
Two of our party who live in London have actually made the trip back to Nottingham just to eat here. I can't say more than that. - Qype User (el_nac…)London, United Kingdom133821 Mar 2010
Went here for my graduation celebration meal with my family. One of the best meals I've ever had. Superb food and service. The only problem was the heat! The gorgeous building doesn't lend itself to eating indoors in the heat of summer. Staff were great, and even brought out a special dessert saying congratulations on it! Great evening.
I also went with some student mates. Be warned, it's a very expensive bar!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (Jean_J…)Edinburgh, United Kingdom85312 May 2008
This is a great, contemporary looking indian restaurant. My first experience was a great one - I celebrated a birthday here and the food was impressive, the service fantastic and they even brought out a cake and sang to me!
It was so good I took a friend back there who had a chicken dishes with pieces blatanty uncooked. Not wanting to cause a fuss, he ate what he cook and then told them at the end of the meal. In return for this discretion, the restaurant were less than discreet and brought the offending chicken back from the kitchen and attempted to demonstrate that cooked chicken was supposed to be life-threateningly dark pink, and decidedly raw. A real disappointment that took the edge off a wonderful birthday evening spent there.
The jury is out on this one - I've seen its potential but that is the worst reaction to a valid, and subtle complaint I could imagine, and made us feel uncomfortable and not in anyway reassured to return.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (amatsu…)Nottingham, United Kingdom101112115 Nov 2008
An absolute must of a dining experience even if you can only afford to do it once!
The food and service are sublime. You never feel rushed or cramped and the garden is gorgeous; a real hideaway in the middle of a busy city.
You can eat here at lunchtime from 12 - 2.
I have two friends living in London (quite a few good restaurants there?) who come up here to eat for birthdays/special occasions. Can't get a better reccomendation than that!

I totally agree with muddybunny, World Service is amazing. There's not a bad thing that I can say about it, it is just perfect.
I think it is expensive as when I went with my boyfriend, it cost £140! However, we did make the most of it and order 3 courses, and I think that the expense just adds to the experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (becksl…)Oakham, United Kingdom16714 Nov 2008
Although a little pricey, this is a lovely modern indian restaurant, situated in the city centre.
This is a very trendy eatery and is at the higher end of the price range. But what you get is a very varied and iteresting menu, with dishes not available in the bog standard restaurants. Its more formal yet contemporary etting is a welcome change to the more casual indian restaurants and it feels more of a dining experience then just a meal out.
I have eaten here as a couple and as part of a large group. When with the group we had a taster menu which was great as i tried things i wouldnt ordinarily have picked out. Food was very well preented and all the food was well cooked and very tasty.
Pricing on drinks is expensive and here price i found was the only real downfall.
This i more for a treat then a general night out.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (tastyc…)Nottingham, United Kingdom24819 Nov 2008
For the people in this world who like the experience of eating out and have enough money to do so in style, this is the absolute best in Nottingham.
This is my special occasion place, and we go the whole hog! Extensive list of cocktails when you arrive, including champagne cocktails, all taken in a delightfully relaxed seating area near the bar. Three courses of superb quality, and thoughtfully constructed food, which portion sizes are plentiful but not over the top. Great wine list, with write-ups that actually describe what you drink! Coffee, liquers and petit fours in the bar after the meal.
Don't expect any money for the cab home after, but it's all worth it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
