Why is this showing as closed? We just called and they're open.
A:
They are not closed. They moved locations- they are back and MUCH better than they used to be. My whole family and I are VERY impressed with the new chef!

China Rainbow is located in the Dunkin Donuts plaza. When one or both are busy, the parking lot can be a fun puzzle. There is a little seating but most of their business seems to be takeout.
The food is good, very traditional American Chinese fare. There is a good sized serving of rice for each entree, and the food travels very well. Prices are reasonable.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Andrea A.Litchfield, United States5817 May 2023
China rainbow has the best Chinese food in which field. While they don't deliver, and you must bring cash versus a credit card, the owners are really nice. They cook food according to specifications, and I have never been let down by the quality of the food.

They closed in March but they've reopened just a few days ago (as of June 5), and we welcome their return. The menu is the same, and the food prep is about the same, and best of all, the results are still tasty. We favor their curry dishes, which are consistently good and freshly prepared. The owners and staff are good folks, and since they have always been mostly takeout, we hope they'll find business booming in a short time. We'll certainly be helping them along the way.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming, the food is good if not exceptional (with one exception, mentioned below), and it's convenient and quite reasonably priced. If you live in Litchfield, it's the go-to place for Chinese, and lots of area residents do take-outs here, and there are five tables for inside dining as well. The standard Chinese menu items (General Tso's chicken, for instance) are pleasingly prepared. Everything tastes freshly made. We think the pork-fried rice to be wonderfully delicious, a not-to-miss order. We can and do eats pounds of it. The owners take a lot of pride in this restaurant, and it shows. We recommend it.

We ordered from here only once and that was quite enough. We placed our order and waited indoors for it to be ready. I watched as they did a very brisk business. When our order was called and I offered the cashier my credit card, he asked instead if I didn't have any cash on me. I had to insist on him taking my card before he ran the transaction through his machine. (It was for $32 so it's not like I wanted to use my card on a $6 order.) On the ride home, one of the dishes leaked through the bag and onto my partner's jacket. (Dry cleaning could not remove the stain.) Arriving home, we discovered the chicken dish was undercooked. We ended up throwing most of what we ordered out in disgust and two years later we have not returned.

This is the best thing to happen to Litchfield food scene in decades!! Authentic, high-quality, gourmet Chinese food at reasonable prices that don't bust the wallet. I ordered for eight people with a range of tastes. Some people liked spicy food , some people are vegetarian and everybody loved their dish! They do excellent versions of all the traditional Chinese food and their special diet section deserves heaps of recognition as well! Very efficient and the food is prepared quickly and is very fresh.

Good value, solid Chinese takeout in Litchfield - one combo platter is usually enough for two dinners. Not haute cuisine but tasty enough with good ingredients

Placed an order for crab ragoons, pork lo mein and an egg roll. Was told it would be ready in 40 minutes; it sounded busy so I waited an extra 20 minutes before I went to go pick it up. When I got there an hour after placing it, it still wasn't ready and I was told another 10 minutes.
I am glad they are busy, and business is good, but 30 minutes after a projected pickup time to wait for an order is absurd.
My low stars are really more so for my concern of Covid exposure in this establishment. The restaurant has safety measures up for staff; the register and kitchen has a plexiglass barrier and you take your food bag out of a wooden box that you open from the outside.
The waiting area is small and packed with people waiting for their orders. I would have preferred to wait outside but it took a few minutes for the lady answering calls to come to the window and ask me for my pickup number so I had no choice. No hand sanitizer anywhere or any type of distancing enforced.
No thanks, I will 100% not be back.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Bev H.CT, United States0125 Dec 2021
We' ve been going to China Rainbow for years. We were always amazed at how busy they usually are, but they manage to be so accurate with the orders and the quality of the food was excellent and always hot when we got home.
Today was very disappointing. Our order was not right, they charged us for four egg rolls, but only gave us three, ordered two combos, got one and a regular entree with white rice, the taste of the beef and broccoli wasn't up to their usual standards and the food was warm, not hot as it normally has been. I called to let them know, I was referred to the manager who made excuses and said if I wanted to food hot I had to come in to order it, not phone it in. When I asked if it was under new management, he said "No".
This place is not the same, the manager didn't care that the order wasn't right. As a result, we'll be looking elsewhere when we want Chinese. Darn it!!

This place used to be a little sketchy but in their new location with their new chef I have nothing but good things to say! Food is good, tastes fresh, and delicious and not over priced. Couldn't be happier Litchfield has a good Chinese place again!! Yes, they take only cash (they'll take a card if you HAVE to) but lots of places do that so give them a break and go to the atm :)

Got my pork fried rice and there was bits of metal in it??? Maybe from the pan it was fried in or the scrubber the pan was cleaned with???
Also, now-a-days everybody pays with plastic, I don't believe in their "cash-only" policy.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
