All I can say is try the grey peas and bacon it's a Black Country staple and it's very good here. My new pre match meal.
Excellent pub for home supporters, meeting up before the match.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (rogerl…)Wolverhampton, United Kingdom21823 Dec 2011Updated review
Always a great welcome from Jamie and all the staff. Fantastic Holdens Special and a hot pork bap in the comfort of log fires. Regular guest ales including Quintessential by Derby Brewing Company. Like a country pub walking distance from city centre :-)

A proper good pub and near the station if you use the correct exit. Or 10-15 minutes confused wandering if you start out on the wrong track.
Despite finding an alternative scenic route on the way back to the station too I very much enjoyed a visit to this excellent establishment. Millstone True Grit was a good beer and the place has a very pleasant atmosphere to it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (kevin2…)Wolverhampton, United Kingdom257763513 Aug 2009Updated review
Used to be a great place until the present landlord too it on. He sacked all the staff, put a new menu on, loaded the prices, etc.
So whilst I still pop in - its not to eat, not for a long and not as often.
The beer (Holdens) is still excellent though.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 028 Jul 2008Previous reviewA great pub for ale (Holdens + 2 guest) lovers. Food served lunchtimes - simple stuff like faggots & mash. Good atmosphere. Close to W/ton rail/bus stations. In Good Beer Guide and has won national title and many regional titles. Well worth a visit.
UPDATE DEC 08- been in a couple of times very recently and I have to agree with previous comments that is HAS changed so much with the new owner. The beer has had quite a price rise. The food is slow and not at all cheap. The new gaffer loves live music and sometimes you can't find a seat or hear conversation. Not on my regular list anymore I'm afraid. - Qype User (amyjaw…)Wolverhampton, United Kingdom212315 Nov 2008
This pub always has a nice atmosphere and the customer service is very very good. The drinks are a good price not to high and a nice place to go to meet your friends.
The atmosphere is very lively and the workers are always bubbly and willing to help and always greet you making you feel very welcome and making you want to go back again and again. There are not many places like this and is a nice little place and i recommend it alot to anyone especially for a birthday drink or a staff night out a really nice place to go.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (Wolves…)Wolverhampton, United Kingdom2623925 Jul 2011
Still a superb pub with excellent beers and quite good food.
Matchdays are insanely busy meaning it can take a while to get served but nonetheless a jewel in Wolverhampton's crown.
3 stars from Wolves Councils Scores on the doors so confident in their hygiene standards.
Highly recommended.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Hesseh S.Tividale, United Kingdom2387851211 Dec 2012
A gem well hidden . The beer is Holdens and three rotating guest beers well chosen but the best regular beer there is the Bathams . Unfortunately the Holdens cannot be recommended but thats not the pubs fault it just that its Holdens . Having been a regular for a long time I obviously like the place but have to say that the food is not as good as it once was and is decidely more expensive .

situated behind the modern day railway station, this pub is sited next to what was once wolverhampton's second railway station called 'low level station'
a favourite for real ale drinkers, this authentic pub is a must for anyone visiting the town as it is a living example of black country life
living away from wolves now, every time i catch the train 'home' i always make my way down to the great western for a couple of 'points-o-moild' to wash down a 'bag-o-stratchins'
can be busy on matchdays, but don't be put off as those wolves fans in the great western are the friendly sortHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Gregor M.Essen, Germany060163 Apr 2010First to Review
Absolut empfehlenswerter pub. Gutes britisches Bier (handpulled, CAMRA), Holdens und Gastbiere (wenn ich mich recht erinnere). Gutes Pubfood zur lunch-Zeit, dann aber auch sehr voll, jedoch mit sehr zügiger Logistik. Vielfach besucht, zuletzt 2008
