Kimantra is a spa in Angel off of Upper Street in Camden Passage. It is also the only place I go for my threading and waxing needs. Shanie is excellent! She is cheerful and personable and happily chats away while I'm having hair removed from various parts of my body.

Shanie is an expert in threading, she threads my eyebrows every 3-4 weeks and my eyebrows are perfect every time. The process is less damaging to the skin than waxing. She also is the only person I will go to for a Brazilian. Waxing hurts, but not when Shanie does it! When the waxing is over the area is smooth and pain free.

A highlight is that Kimantra was just refurbished and looks incredible! There prices have gone up a bit post-refurbishment but they are still much cheaper than other places I've looked into. A Brazilian will set you back £25 and eyebrow threading £11, which isn't bad considering you only do it once a month. The customer service is superb and I highly recommend this spa as your relaxation sanctuary!

Well after reading the girl's reviews on Yelp!, I thought I'd try out Kimantra for myself. In need of a new waxer, I tested the waters by having my eyebrows done. And I wasn't disappointed. The therapist was lovely, efficient and funny, being one of the first beauticians to ever do my eyebrows exactly as I had requested!

I'll definitely be heading back there to test out some more services - the decore is amazing, so calming, clean and friendly. Fabulous!

Was able to get a walk in appointment on a Saturday afternoon for brow threading and tinting. My beauticians did a fantastic job and was really nice. This place is clean, bright, and the staff here are awesome. I'll be back!

I've been to Kimantra a few times now; as spas go I'd call it my local. And it's okay. I wouldn't rave about it or tell you that you *have* to go here, but it's pretty decent.

I called up today very last minute and they managed to fit me in. When I arrived it was a bit odd, 3 receptionists stood at the counter - staring at me. Felt like going into one of those bitchy MAC makeup stores. Whatever.

If it's your first time at Kimantra they make you fill out a form telling them about any illnesses or issues you have. My masseuse, Ken, turned out to be a guy, which was pretty surprising as they never told me that on the phone or when I arrived. I think when it's a woman booking the appointment, it's a courtesy to say 'are you okay to have a male masseuse'. An older lady was there for her very first massage ever and she got a big dude with an accent. Bit weird for her I imagine, as a first timer.

It's always a bit awkward when a strange man is rubbing you as you lie almost naked. And this was no different as he got very up close and personal. Usually you have to buy me dinner first to get into my pants like that ;-)

But he turned out to be a great masseuse, he asked a lot about my work issues to find out what might be causing the tension and after I got dressed came in to help stretch me out for another 10 minutes. He also gave advice about eating and stuff to prevent further tension. And he never even tried to give me the hard-sell to come back like some people have done there before.

The rooms can be pretty small here, but if you aren't going for a full day of treatments it's fine.

I come to Kimantra for most of my beauty treatments. I love how down to earth all of the beauticians are, they can be a little pushy and go for the hard sell sometimes, however they also tell you how to get the best deal from the few offers they have.
The massages that I have had have all been great, just the right amount of pressure and always checking to see how you are doing.

I've been carrying so much tension in my neck that I've had constant headaches over the past few months. Kimantra is offering 25% off a deep tissue massage between 10am and noon to celebrate their new location in King's Cross so I decided to give it a go.

It seemed comfortable enough when I entered. There are big glass jars full of oils on the walls that you can have bottled. The decor is around butterflies and dragonflies with a lot of purple and black. The receptionist sent me upstairs and I helped myself to a glass of water. Smooth R&B was playing on the radio when my masseuse, Olga, gave me a form to complete before my massage.

The treatment room left a lot to be desired in that it lacked any noise insulation. I could hear the buses on Upper Street, people walking up and down the hallway, and a handyman in the room next to mine. At one point during the massage I found it odd that the music suddenly became techno then realized it was the handyman's cell phone when I heard him answer it and carry on a conversation.

All that aside, the massage was fantastic. Olga really worked her way into the knots in my upper back. Some of her strokes were a bit painful - but in a good way. If you want a light, relaxing massage, keep in mind that the deep tissue variety is not for you. I was hoping for exactly the massage I received.

If you are searching for a relaxing oasis that will feel like an escape from the city, Kimantra probably isn't the best choice. However, if you want a therapeutic massage for a good price (one hour was 51.75 with the discount) go see Olga.

I have sort of mixed feelings about my visit here.Bad part first:

My cousin and I arrived and had our consultations which consisted of filling out a form. Then we moved on to our baths which came free with our two 90 minute massages. The person who let us in mentioned that the baths had been pulled hot and that we could add cold water to taste, however the baths were scalding. I've spent a lot of time in a lot of different spas, but I've never gotten into something that hot before. It took us 5-10 minutes to get the tubs to a temperature where we could get in. When we finally got in we didn't have that much time left and our champagne was warm due to the heat in the room. Blech.

That was the bad part. The awesome part was Hamid. I got the best 90 minute massage ever from Hamid who was super professional and very friendly. I tend to get a little nervous around male masseurs, it's a thing. I felt completely comfortable with Hamid and he did a fantastic job. I was extremely tense going in and came out in great shape. He also showed me some stretches that will help keep me from getting into tense body mode again.

I was going to give Kimantra 3 stars, but the combination of my session with Hamid and my cousin's session being good despite her joint issues pushed it up to 4. I'll come back, for sure.

I love spa treatments. Spa treatments are brilliant. I'm not a particularly hygienic person but that just makes the cleansing qualities of a spa even more of a bonus for me, as I leave smelling of oils and lotions instead of the inside of a bin which has been left in the sun for three weeks. Enough about my body odour, it's time for me to chat about the AMAZING massage I had at Kimantra and why I think it's a brilliant central place to get some treatments.

So I went for the one hour full body deep tissue massage, as after being hunched over a desk for the past 6 weeks revising for exams my spine was more curved than a banana, and as soon as I arrived I felt the stress begin to melt away. The shop is small but calm, with soft lighting and a comfortable waiting area. I was taken through to the treatment room and pummelled by a man who was built like a barn and incredibly sweet. Apart from when he was making me weep as he loosened every muscle in my body. Often I find that massages are too soft and gentle, but this was perfect- just the right balance of pleasure and pain [I'm hoping I'm not revealing too much about myself in this review; first my lack of washing, now this].It was pricey but there are cheaper treatments and in my opinion it was worth every penny. Brilliant.

I love the feeling of walking into a beauty salon and feeling completely relaxed, something they manage very well at Kimantra.
Both times i've been here they have been running very late for my appointment though they make up for it with quick and friendly service. Prices are reasonable and I'll be going back again.

I had two terrible experiences at the Kimantra Urban Spa, where I went based on the positive yelp reviews.

I first went on a saturday a few months ago for a brazilian waxing. The girl was clearly a beginner, she was almost trembling and she left threads of wax everywhere and on my body (and did not remove them afterwards). She would wax four times the same area of skin, because she said the hair did not go, although I never had that problem anywhere else. She was so clumsy that I was scared she would hurt my skin. I went out with a red skin and a very bad feeling.

I went again a few months after, still on a saturday, thinking I'd give them another chance because I live so close. I went for a brazilian waxing + a luxury pedicure. For the waxing it was the same girl, she got a bit better but not very much, I still had a bad moment and decided never to go again. I should probably have cancelled the pedicure at that moment because that is when the nightmare started. The "luxury" pedicure took place... in the corridor! with people passing by all the time and the girl having to move all her stuff because there was not enough place for all of us, while I was sitting on an uncomfortable bench. I am not going to talk about how lame the pedicure was because the only fact that I paid 55 pounds to be seated in a corridor seems bad enough for me. No need to say I'll never go to this place again.
