I'm only giving three stars because the place was pretty toasty, almost uncomfortably so. It's definitely a charming place however and I loved the historical feeling of it. Bathrooms were clean. Not a great place for children, and very cramped if you have a stroller (including this feedback specifically because a large family group came in after us with both children and a stroller. Stroller got tipped over by said children acting squirrely. Almost took out a sideboard with dishes on it.) I was very pleased with the kind and attentive service though; despite a language barrier we were able to communicate just fine. Wine was good to my unrefined palate, escargot as appetizer was tasty, and my meal was very delicious. If i lived in Strasbourg, I would certainly return.

This was an awesome spot in Strasbourg for a 7-person dinner. The salads were a hit at our table as were the potato pancakes and tartines. The sauerkraut was a crowd favorite as well. The menu was seasonal and ingredients tasted fresh and local. Lots of vegetarian and pescatarian-friendly options. We had a fantastic server who recommended us three desserts (chocolate mousse, apple tart, and plum tart).

The ambiance at Lohkäs was great and the food even better. The menu was expansive with fish and meats with authentic Alsatian foods. We made a reservation for 7 but had to wait 20 minutes until we could be seated. This was made up by the fast service and great views outdoors. Would eat here again!

It's harder to find a better place for a typical Alsatian meal while in Strasbourg than Lohkas. Located in "La Petite France" (you know, the picturesque part of the city that all of the tourists use the heart emoji eyes to caption on their Instagram . . . not that I'm speaking from experience or anything . . .), it will provide you with the delicious meal in a cozy ambience that you have been hoping to have while in this part of the world.
I visited on a recent trip to Strasbourg after a long day of wandering around the city. I told my friend, who hails from nearby, that I needed a "typical Alsatian meal" while I was there, especially the "choucroute". "Essaie la choucroute," my high school French dialogue had exhorted me. "C'est une specialte d'Alsace." 20 years after listening to that dialogue track, I finally did.
The service was attentive and brisk. We started with Escargots (divine, especially with some bread to sop up the herby, garlicky butter!) and then I got my Choucroute with 6 types of sausage. The choucroute did not disappoint, and I can recommend that you try it as well while in Alsace. The sausage was the perfect temperature, flavorful, and hit the spot.
The restaurant itself is in a sunken dining room (probably was an old cellar at one point but it is so cozy and warm and intimate), and you feel like you're dining at a friend's house while you're there. It's the perfect spot to cap off your day in Strasbourg!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Michelle T.New Orleans, United States4599520 Oct 2019
We wanted traditional Alsacien food and this restaurant did not disappoint. The interior was like we were in an old German cottage with wooden beams, quaint alcoves, and German cuckoo clock. We ordered the escargot, Strasbourg saucisson, and Choucroute. It was the perfect blend of German and French influences. The food was amazing! The escargot was served out of their shells in a rich, parsley, butter, and garlic sauce. The Choucroute was a mound of choice Mets: Strasbourg saucisson, Knackwurst, Brisket, and Jambon. All piled high in a bed of the most delicious sauerkraut. It was perfection! Sorry only two pictures. We were all busy devouring our meals!

So glad we found this place! It's smaller and less assuming than some of the nearby restaurants, and we appreciated the quiet atmosphere and good service. Very few tourists were lunching here, mostly locals. The outside seating was great for people-watching, and the inside seating looked like it had a nice historic, traditional atmosphere.
Hubby had the choucroute Alsacienne: sausage and GREAT ham served on sauerkraut. Seriously, this was the most flavorful ham either of us had ever tasted. I thought the sauerkraut was delicious, too -- and I don't even like sauerkraut usually.
I had the coq au Riesling, served in a delicious sauce with vegetables and yummy spaetzle. The house pinot gris was delicious, as dry as a California pinot grigio (i.e. not sweet), but with a hint of fruitiness. We shared an excellent chocolate mousse, very dark and rich.
A most pleasant lunch. Nothing could have been improved.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
