Zigfrid's is probably my favourite bar in Hoxton. Unlike many of its neighbours it hasn't chosen to go for the stark minimalist look and you feel like you can actually relax without your presence messing up the place. I like the mismatched furniture and odd lamps, even though it's still very stylised it seems to have a lot more soul.
Last time I was here my friend and I went to town on their cocktail list and though I can't really vouch for the later ones, our Mojito's and Caiprinha's were very good. On the other hand, the house white was shocking and served in warm glasses. Avoid it if you can!
The music at Zigfrid's is what really seals the deal for this place in my mind. I don't think I've heard the same style twice but whatever has been playing, hip hop, punk, ska or soul, it's always been upbeat and got people up and dancing. Even the coolest of Hoxton kids can't resist tapping their toes to R-E-S-P-E-C-T!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Bruno S.London, United Kingdom2662548 May 2016
This place was really good, we had dinner and as per pic that was a great burger (total meal was around 15£ without drinks). Also had a great night here, drinks were ok and staff was quite friendly. Can't give 5 stars as it feels like the place is trying to be something it is not - A trendy place. It is great for food and drinks and they do stay open till late, but most of the deco and the way the space is set is just not worth it and they could gain from having this extra space and give it better use. Would come back in a night out with friends, but never on a date :-)

Hi Bruno,
What a joy it is to wake up on a Sunday morning and read that you had a good time and enjoyed our food, drinks & service! We would always love to welcome you back (and please, do bring a date) and would like to say that we're not trying to be trendy - we've been crafting our beloved Ziggy since the beginning of the previous decade and it's our home from home. Thank you for your visit and your kind words! - Stephen K.Harlow, United Kingdom125926 Oct 2015
For what it's worth, this place is just a trendy Shoreditch club that could be better managed. What I have a problem with the most is the lack of attention that manager(s) give to customers. My mate had his engagement drinks here and reserved a section for their guests. Yet upon arrival, there was no section blocked off for him - other reserved sections had name cards but his (and apparently a couple others) were not reserved. After speaking with management, he had to kick people out of his reserved section (instead of the manager doing it) and request that the name cards placed on his reserved tables. After fulfilling his requests, I noticed that the manager encountered the same problem with another group who reserved a section.
I think the drinks are over-priced (most likely due to the area) and the music could be better - we went on a night where the DJs might have been practicing. I won't be going back and will not recommend this place to anyone.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Stephen,
Thank you for taking the time to write feedback! I hope I am able to clarify a few things for you.
We don't charge for reserving tables - the booking deposit is redeemable as bar credit in full.
As you can imagine, we wouldn't be in business if we didn't turn tables. For that reason, the reserved signs say that other guests are welcome to sit at a table until the party that reserved it arrives. We ask the guests who reserve tables to make themselves known to our staff so we can set up the bar credit for them and make sure their table is vacated. I will be looking into what exactly happened with your friend's reservation and the reserved signs, but I hope we were able to take care of it for you on the night. I apologise for the management not being swift enough.
As to the prices, we price our food and drinks competitively and whenever possible, considering our overheads, offer cheaper prices than others in the area. We can't, of course, compete with Wetherspoon's or very large companies with massive purchase power.
I'm sorry about the DJ - again, we will be looking into this and taking all the necessary steps.
A quick search shows that we had an engagement party a few months ago and the organisers sent us feedback that everyone had a brilliant time. If this wasn't your party and you or your friends feel there is anything else left to clarify, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us directly.
I hope we will see you again sometime soon as I am confident we can overcome these hiccups! - Joseph P.London, United Kingdom083686 Nov 2008First to Review
Zigfrid is a trendy bar with attitude situated in one of the uber trendy sides of East London, Hoxton. The location is perfect in the heart of vib Shoreditch. They offer regular DJ nights even if sometimes the music is too loud for serious conversation. The Bar offers a variety of cocktails and beers and American diner style food for hungry customers.
The atmosphere of the place is quite fast paced with many people talking, luaghing, getting merry but if that is your sort of thing then you will like ths bar.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Catherine H.London, United Kingdom102272385 Dec 2008
This is one of those typical Shoreditch bars that used to be really cool and attract the perfect crowd, but has somehow now gone down the drain a little. The interior of the pub is rather pretentiously decorated with old leather couches, edgy lamp shades, coffee tables, armchairs, and lots of candlelit areas.
Unfortunately, the music played by the regular DJs is usually too loud, and makes it hard to have a relaxed social evening with your friends. The prices in here are also unjustifyingly expensive. I usually prefer to come here during an early afternoon and sit on the heated patio area. If hunger takes you over, go for the burgers which are rather tasty.
There is also an interesting club space downstairs known as the 'Underbelly'. It is a good space and could be fun if you are up for a jig after a couple of drinks upstairs, but once again the crowd which often feels like after-work city workers often puts me off this space.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tiffany H.London, United Kingdom1363113610 Oct 2015
This place is seems to be really fun and eccentric...and it really is. The decor and atmosphere is very fun and youthful. But if I'm perfectly honest, I wasn't super thrilled to be there for an entire evening.
Perhaps I have relatively petty reasons why I'm giving this place a 2 star rating...but I have to go with what I think. Meh. I've experienced better. I found this place fairly expensive. I know shoreditch is a pretty expensive place to drink, but I thought that the prices given to me at the bar is more than I'd expect. Also, I was wary that the bartenders were making some mistakes with pricing. A friend of ours bought 2 drinks, a gin and tonic and a beer...but the price the bartender gave my friend was for a double gin and tonic and a beer. I know mistakes happen, but there is a pretty big price difference and if you're not careful or paying attention, you could be paying way more.
I ordered only a side of fries, and it took ages for it to arrive. It was relatively early on in the evening and the bar wasn't so packed. So I'm not sure why it took so long. But they did come hot and very salty. It was not served with ketchup, but with sweet chilli sauce and mayo. Tasted pretty good...but anything tastes pretty good if you're hungry!
Lastly, the main reason why I didn't like to drink here was that seating arrangements were rather uncomfortable. The tables would be set quite low and you would sit on small stools. Some tables were old barrels, so there would be loads of stools crowded in a cornered barrel. The way that the seating was set up would actually make you very slouched and it was uncomfortable to sit and chat with friends.
Perhaps I'm being a bit finicky, but honestly the seating arrangements at this bar was so uncomfortable. If you were going to be there for a couple drinks, it's great, but the fact I was there for the entire evening was just physically uncomfortable. If this place had more comfortable chairs or sofas, I probably would have given this place a better rating...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Hi Tiffany,
Thank you for coming down with your friends and taking some time to write feedback! We are delighted that you liked the decor and think our venue looks like fun - this is exactly what we are trying to offer.
When pricing our food and drinks we keep a keen eye on what's going on in the area so we can price competitively and whenever possible charge less than others given our overheads. It is regrettable that there was confusion with whether it was a single or a double gin & tonic, but we hope you managed to clarify this on the night.
Your feedback about chips being too salty is taken on board and we will action less salt on chips immediately - thank you!
Our lounge area seating arrangements are made up of sofas and various stools and chairs. The majority of the lower stools are by our owner Paul Daly who's a designer and they are manufactured specifically for us. We have found that the variety of different styles of seating enables us to cater for both more relaxed midweek drinks as well as fast-paced weekends. We're sorry you didn't manage to grab a sofa or a stool with a back and an armrest. We also have a restaurant area that you can check out the next time you are in Hoxton Square as we would really love to welcome you back! - Errol S.Austin, United States25031510 Apr 2017
It was my first meal in London and they nailed it! It was great to see numerous vegan options on their menu. I went for the veggie burger and the kale and bean salad. It hit the spot!

I ended up at Zigfrid von Underbelly on Valentine's Day for a CouchSurfing party. Considering I had nothing better to do on that particular Saturday night in London, I have to say I had a good time. Got there early and it was easy to get a beer, so I ended up chatting with my bartender who was from Budapest where I spend most of my time. She had no Hungarian beers, so I had a Czech beer. Expensive in my world, but decently priced in London. It got pretty crowded later, not sure if that's normal for a Saturday, but not too busy that I couldn't deal. I could definitely see myself going back here if I was back in London.

Went to see a friend playing in a gig. Great small venue for local bands and a lovely place to meet up with a group. It's in a perfect location in Hoxton Square, not too far from the Northern Line.
The bar is quirky and cool, with an upstairs and outside area for eating, drinking and talking. You head downstairs and you find the music venue, which has comfortable places to sit, plenty of standing room and a bar.
I'm looking forward to checking it out again when I'm not there for a band, as it seems like a fun location to meet up with my girls.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Viktoriya K.London, United Kingdom1431354 Dec 2014
While the upstairs area ha the most amazing sofas, and a lovely atmosphere for a proper catch up with friends, the downstairs is an amazing gig space.
Upstairs are is not loud, and you can keep a conversation flowing without the need to yell, which is quite useful if that's why you went out. Was quite disappointing that they had run out of Guinness towards the end of the evening - definitely not ideal, but to be fair they did put a generous amount of blackcurrant syrup in my Guinness the first time around.
Didn't order any food there, but nibbled on the pizza that my friend ordered. Despite it being extremely thin, it was lovely or maybe I was just tooo hungry)... the food came quite quickly as well.
I really enjoyed the toilets at the venue (I know - weird), but I could hardly resist taking a selfie there - broken pieces of glass all over the walls looked really awesome...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
